The Passport Chain is a civil society campaign through art in support of refugees and people seeking asylum.

Working with with Romero Community Hub and Refugees Welcome Australia, artist Tintin Wulia envisions The Passport Chain to be a long-term project to both gather funds and raise awareness on the status of refugees and people seeking asylum in Australia.

The project integrates two of Tintin's previous series of passport works – her passport claw machines (Lure 2009, Eeny Meeny Money Moe 2012, Citizenshop Randomizer 2013) and the workshop-performance Make Your Own Passport (2014). These works will be extended and expanded as vehicles to gather funds, stimulate discussions/conversations on the issue facilitated by Refugees Welcome Australia, as well as to provide training and skills development through Romero's network, including its art&crafts and sewing groups, other refugee support and advocacy organisations, as well as schools around Brisbane.

Throughout the first pilot year, machines will be stationed at public places and workshops will be held regularly in markets and schools. The production and management of the project itself will provide a structure for skills development of Romero's clients – microbusiness (through managing the income), mechanics skills (through maintaining the machine), art&crafts skills (through producing more passports to supply the machine). Funds earned will be used to generate more funds for the running of refugee support organisations. At the end of this pilot year, The Passport Chain will be reviewed for continuation.
